Nothing is Something by Halle Rager

Nothing is something.

The only way to describe the emotion she felt was nothing. It wasn’t neutral. And she wasn’t happy or sad. Not even both of them, nor one of them. None of them. No anger. Just sort of nothing. And it was like she was just there. The life of hers paused as everyone goes around her. The laughter running from their mouths. Getting up and walking as they go to hug onto the ones they love. And all of them floating around her, while she’s there. But not. None of her was there. It was gone. There was nothing. And she missed all of the feelings. She couldn’t remember what it felt like. How a warm feeling would bubble up in her chest, and a smile would stretch through her being. It would surround her and tear away all of those dark rafters. Or maybe they were just shutting them. For only a strong wind to come and rip it from its hinges.

Yeah, she felt nothing. She was nothing. And.

And you guess nothing is something. So she beat the system. And for some reason that can make things better. And maybe if she were to grasp onto that long enough, she’ll realize that hey, maybe she was kinda okay. Because she isn’t a lifeless piece of nothing. No, she was indeed something. And. And that’s what brought tears to her eyes. And there was sadness there. She was feeling, and it hurt. But. But there was no longer nothing. There was something there. And it was overpowering. Like some sort of relief was lifted up off of her shoulders. Because she was feeling sadness, and like maybe she had a chance. And that was indeed something. It really was something.
