The Washington Football Team By Scott Adkins

The Washington Football Team is 6-7 currently, the 7th seed in the NFC playoffs, and sliding behind on the Dallas Cowboys for the NFC East title. They have also won four out of five. Pretty surprising based on the fact people wrote their season off in October.
QB Dilema
Early in the season Washington was expected to make the postseason for a second year in a row after sneaking into the playoffs with a 7-9 record last season. Their starting QB Alex Smith retired though following a nice end to his career. But they signed big with QB Ryan “Fitzmagic” Fitzpatrick, who barely missed the playoffs with the Miami Dolphins, but led them to a 10-6 season with nice stats. But in the season opening loss against the Los Angeles Chargers, Ryan Fitzpatrick injured his hip. The Washington Football Team was hopeful about his return, but it was concluded that Fitzmagic would have season-ending hip surgery. So who’s Washington's QB now?
September/October Struggles
Taylor Heinicke was a backup QB the previous year also. When Alex Smith was not available for Washington in their first round NFC playoff game against the later Super Bowl Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by the G.O.A.T NFL player in Tom Brady, it was a lot to ask for. But Heinicke played well and almost beat the Bucs but fell 31-23. Heinicke was not expected to play, but Fitzmagic’s injury put Heinicke back in. Heinicke’s WFT struggled early on with losses to the Chargers, the Bills, the Saints, the Packers, and the Broncos with only wins against the Falcons and the Giants. Washington was 2-6 and people wrote their season off. But something happened.
November Sparks
November came, and The WFT were playing at home against the Bucs, who beat them in the playoffs. Tom Brady was still there, and the Washington defense was struggling so far this year. But they stepped up with a huge 29-19 win over the Bucs. Then they played a decent Carolina Panthers team, motivated by the return of Cam Newton, who led the Panthers to a Super Bowl in 2016. The Washington defense stepped up again, and the offense did it's job, however, and the Football Team managed to squeak out a 27-21 win on the road. Washington returned home to battle a struggling Seattle Seahawks team, led by Super Bowl Winner Rusell Wilson. The WFT defense played perfectly again, and the offense did just enough to squeak out a 17-15 victory to win their third straight. With that win, Washington slipped into the Wild Card spot in the playoffs.
Nice December Beginnings, but Injury Struggles
At the beginning of December, Washington was 5-6 and closing in on an injury-stricken Cowboys team for the NFC East title. Washington had some injury and COVID problems themselves, with Chase Young, the Defensive Rookie of the Year last season, tearing his ACL and is out for the year, Montez Sweat is on the COVID list as of late after missing four weeks with a fractured jaw, and Running back J.D McKissic is questionable right now with concussions, and Safety Landon Collins is also questionable. They traveled to the west coast to play the then 6-5 Los Vegas Raiders, led by QB Derek Carr. During the game, star Tight End Logan Thomas hurt his knee. Washington won the game 17-15 for it's fourth straight win, but people feared Thomas tore his ACL and MCL. It's not as bad as people feared, but the injury still will keep Thomas out for the rest of the season.
Still Questions About WFT
There are still questions about the WFT, even in the streak they are in now. Can Washington’s defense carry them further? Can Washington’s offense play better to make the wins comfortable, with Terry McLaurin being their only star option, but Adam Humphries and rookie John Bates playing well? Can Washington overcome their injuries and get more wins before they come back? These questions will get answered by the end of the season.
