MLB Opening Day Preview by Andrew Zajac and Marshall Laskowski
Opening day is coming up on March 30, 2023. This year is highly anticipated because of all the big trades and big losses. There are a lot of new rule changes coming to MLB, such as the pitch clock, shift changes, and bigger bases .Hopefully this will bring good things such as better offensive production and more stolen bases. The pitch clock will speed the game up and make it more fun to watch, the pitch clock is expected to shave off an additional 25 minutes off the game.
These are some of the best games in Marshall and Andrew’s opinion:
Marshall’s Top Matchups:
These are what I think will be the 2 best matchups of opening day. I think the best games will be the Blue Jays vs. Cardinals and the Mariners vs. Guardians. The Blue Jays versus Cardinals game should have lots of fun offense, as these two teams both made the playoffs and have great rosters - the Blue Jays being led by Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and the Cardinals being led by Nolan Arenado and Pual Goldschmidt.
The second game is the Mariners vs Guardians, which should also have good offense and a good pitching matchup, as both teams' best pitchers are very good. The Guardians are led by Steven Kwan and Jose Ramirez, and the Mariners are led by star players Julio Rodriguez and Teoscar Hernandez. These should be great games which should be enjoyed on opening day. The Mariners vs. The Guardians game is at 10:10 pm and the Blue Jays vs. The Cardinals game is at 4:10 pm.
Andrew’s Top Matchups:
These are what I think will be the best two matchups of Opening Day. The first one has to be the Arizona Diamondbacks at the Los Angeles Dodgers. Even though the Dodgers have some recognized superstars, the Diamondbacks have some quiet talent as well. The Dodgers have Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Max Muncy. But the Diamondbacks have Ketel Marte, Nick Ahmed, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. The Pitching matchup is going to be sensational, with 35 year-old Clayton Kershaw vs 27 year-old phenom Zac Gallen. My prediction for the game is the Dodgers winning 4 to 3.
My second matchup is the MinnesotaTwins at Kansas City Royals. The Twins are loaded this year with Christian Vasquez, Joey Gallo, Byron Buxton, and Jorge Polanco. The Royals have a star-studded lineup as well. Their lineup consists of Salvador Perez, Hunter Dozier, Bobby Witt Jr, and Kyle Isbel. The pitching matchup will be one for the ages, with Zach Greinke for the Royals vs Sonny Gray for the Twins. These will be exciting matchups on Opening Day that you should watch. Minnesota Twins vs Kansas City Royals is at 4:10 pm, and Arizona Diamondbacks vs Los Angeles Dodgers will be at 10:10 pm.
