Wake Forest Baseball Outlook 2025 by Andrew Zajac

On October 28th, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons baseball team fully unveiled their 2025 baseball schedule after they finished their fall season. In case you didn’t know, Wake Forest is a private university in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. They finished 15-15 in ACC play last year but had a strong run and made it to the semifinals of the ACC tournament. They made the Greenville Regionals but went 0-2 losing to VCU and ECU. They lost loads of talent from last season including flamethrower Chase Burns, “Nicky Nukes” (Nick Kurtz), and speed demon Seaver King. Coach Tom Walter and I hope that the Demon Deacons continue the stretch of greatness and have another strong season of ACC baseball.

The Deacs started out the campaign at home for the first four against Long Island on 2/14, Marist on 2/15, Long Island at 930 and then Marist at 4 as a doubleheader on the 16th. They travel to Greensboro, NC to play the Spartans on 2/18. Their first weekend series against St. Johns at the Couch on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. Then they have a familiar Elon team on the 25th at home followed by Rider on the 28th, Maryland on the 1st, and then Rider at 930 and Maryland at 1 in another doubleheader on the 2nd. They travel to Boone to play the Mountaineers on the 4th right before the battle for the ACC begins.

ACC play begins the second weekend of March with the inaugural matchup on Friday the 7th against the Fighting Irish who are in the ACC for baseball. They have a weekend series against Notre Dame, then head to Conway to play the Chanticleers on Tuesday the 11th. They play a not so familiar Miami team on the 14th, 15th, and 16th in Deac Town. The Flames of Liberty are up next in Lynchburg on the 18th.

That part of the season should be smooth-sailing, but here comes the gauntlet. They start out in Clemson to take on the Tigers; they swept Clemson last year at home as severe underdogs which secured their bid to the ACC tournament. They play  the purple and orange on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd of March. They challenge Elon again on the road on the 25th, then take on Virginia Tech at the Couch for a three game stretch on the 28th, 29th, and 30th. They travel down to High Point to play the Panthers on April 1st; a common Interstate opponent. They will contest the Seminoles of Florida State in Tallahassee on April 4th, 5th, and 6th. They come back to Winston-Salem to host UNC Greensboro on the 8th.

Here comes the real challenge: The Tar Heels of North Carolina. The Heels swept the Deacs in Winston-Salem last year with players such as Vance Honeycutt, Parks Harbor, and Casey Cook tormenting Wake all weekend long. The Deacs got the last laugh as they took down the 1 seeded Tar Heels as the 8 seed in the group stage of the ACC tournament by a score of 9-5 in extras. This year hopes to be better as the Demon Deacons travel to Chapel Hill on the 10th, 11th, and 12th.

They come back home to play a familiar Coastal Carolina team on the 15th. The Boston College Eagles come to Deac Town for a three game series on the 17th, 18th, and 19th. The Liberty Flames of Lynchburg, Virginia are the next challenger on the 21st. Wake packs their bags and heads all the way to Stanford, California to play the Cardinal; a new ACC opponent. They will contest App State in Shelby NC at a neutral site on the 29th. The Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs come to the Couch on May 3rd, and a Double Header on May 4th. No weekday game before the Pitt Panthers travel down to challenge the Demon Deacons on May 9th, 10th, and 11th followed by High Point at home on the 13th. The final ACC series of the season will occur in Louisville as Wake Forest takes on the Cardinals on the 15th, 16th, and 17th.

My prediction is that the Deacs go 40-17 overall with them winning 6 out of their 10 ACC series only dropping the Clemson, North Carolina, Florida State, and Louisville series. They will make it into the ACC tournament as the 5 seed and will make it to the semifinal again but end up losing. They will make it to the super-regional but end up falling just a hair short of the College Baseball World Series. Veterans such as Marek Houston and Jack Winnay return along with superstar closer Blake Morningstar. They add transfers such as Jimmy Keenan, Matt Scannell, and Ethan Conrad.
