My BTS Experience (Very long blog) By Katie Kennedy Phillips

So, for my birthday my family decided to take us all to go see BTS. They were in New Jersey on Sunday, May 19th. We got out tickets back in March and I could not describe how excited I was!

Once we got to the arena, MetLife, we had to go through this long line for parking. As we were waiting you could see BTS logos and pictures of the band hanging everywhere. You could also see fans wearing tons of merchandise. Parking was really expensive and we got a parking lot that wasn’t to far, but was still a walk. I didn’t really care because at that point I was in my dreamworld. As you got closer you could hear all the excitement. It was just radiating off of everyone. You had to go through specific doors before you could get into the pop up store that they had set up for you to buy merch. And before that you had to go through security, surprisingly it was just checking your bags. I got a clear for my bag and was able to enter what I would call ARMY Paradise.

The first thing we got at the store were ARMY Bombs for my sister and I. ARMY Bombs are the official lightsticks that fans use when BTS perform. They light up at the control of the people backstage. After that we went to go get our own official merch t-shirts. I hadn’t gotten any of their official merch before and I was really overwhelmed about what I would get. I ended up getting a black t-shirt with the BTS logo in gray sparkles on the front and the tour dates on the back of the shirt. I loved it so much. I tied it around my bag so I wouldn’t hopefully lose it.

After we got our merch we had to ask directions to where out seats were. It turned out that our seats were all the way on the other side of the stadium. And that might not sound so bad, but we had to walk all the way around a gigantic stadium, surrounded by people. At some point I lost my merch. It really made me upset because it was a really special shirt to me even if I only had it for about a hour. My dad asked me if I wanted to go get another one, even though I wanted to, it was really expensive and it was my fault for losing it so I didn’t want to make my parents pay for another. I was hoping I could just get the shirt on their website when we got home. ( I feel very jealous when I see my sister walking around the house in her shirt.)

After we finally walked all the way around we found out seats. We were in row 6 on aisle 111A. I’m not bragging or anything, but the seats were pretty awesome. We were like 50 feet away from the stage. I felt we had a even better view then the people in the pit. As we entered you could hear the chants of the ARMY singing along to the music videos. It felt like music to my ears. I felt like smiling since I was really excited about everything that was going on around me.

We had about 45 minutes before the concert started and I was trying to figure out how to connect our ARMY Bombs to the people backstage. Apparently there is an app that you had to get and then you entered your seat information and waited for it to connect. My parents left to go get drinks and my siblings and I just waited for the show to start. We chanted a little bit to the music videos.

Then the fireworks started. I checked my phone to see it was 7:30. It was time for the concert. Everyone got up and I did the same. You could see a huge silver inflatable tiger blowing up on the stage as the fire went off. On the screens you could see a clip that BTS premade for the concert. It was like a photo shoot, but it went along with the theme of what the song that was about to be played.  The song then started playing and you could see BTS come up from under the stage. The song “Dionysus” was the opening song and it was one of their newest songs from their new album Map of the Soul: Persona. It was a rock song with really crazy dance moves. During one dance move they drop to the ground and they have to catch themselves before they hit the ground. You could hear everyone shouting out the lyrics and of course I was to. It was amazing. Your ARMY Bombs were lighting up a red color to go with the theme. I think I was dying. Fireworks would explode every few minutes, same with the fire. Their next song went on with “Not Today”. Once that song finished they carried on with introductions. Since BTS is from Korea they obviously have trouble speaking English. So hearing their broken English was really cute. I got to chant with the fans and it was all really fun. We sang along with the members and I can’t wait to go again!
