Ten Best Video Game Consoles of All-Time by James DeLong
10. Atari 2600
This system released in 1973 put gaming on the map. The graphics on this system may be poor and weird today, but back then they were impressive. Kind of ironic too, considering it was the reason for the video game crash of the 80’s because of the release of two VERY terrible games. Pac Man (the port to the 2600 was bad but Pac Man all together is a great game stick to the arcade version) and the god awful E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. But other than that this is still a great system
9. NES (Nintendo Entertainment System)
This system released by Nintendo in 1985 is the reason games are still around today. This system saved us from the game crash of the 80s. Why? Mario of course. Mario is the messiah of video games. Such a great system.
8. SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System)
This system started the trend I like to call the bit wars. Meant to compete with the Sega Genesis, this system lost that battle because of five words: No Blood in Mortal Kombat. The port of Mortal Kombat to the SNES had no blood at all and no fatalities. Because the Genesis version did have blood and fatalities, gamers jumped ship to the Genesis and the Genesis sold more systems.
7. Sega Genesis
This system was a great system and was the birthplace for Mario’s arch rival Sonic the Hedgehog.
6. Playstation
The original PlayStation was pretty dang awesome.
5. Xbox
People did not think this system was going to be good, but there was one game exclusive to Xbox that had people buy this system and put Microsoft on the map of video games. It is one of the greatest games of all times, Halo: Combat Evolved. This game is AWESOME.
4. PS2
The PS2 (Playstation 2) is actually the best selling video game console. It had very great games with it.
3. PS3
This system is pretty dang good.
2. Nintendo 64
This system had so many great games with it, including Super Mario 64, Goldeneye, and Star Fox 64 to name a few.
1.Xbox 360
The first system of the last generation video game console was awesome.
