Post Iran Nuclear Deal by Ankur Purao
The United States - Iran nuclear talks have been dominating the news for the past couple of weeks, but what progress has actually been made. About a week ago a deal was reached limiting Iran’s nuclear stockpile, and destroying much of Iran’s already present nuclear stockpile. The congress, and house democrats have been trying to block the Iran deal, but the democrats have pushed it through. A couple days ago a last bid by the senate was made to block the Iran deal, but the deal was pushed through by senate majority leader John Boehner who led the bill to a 56-42 win. The republican majority held senate fell four votes short of killing the deal. This could be one of the biggest foreign policy deals that for Obama’s reign in office. The deal consists of limiting Iran’s nuclear stockpile to a set number, and the US will also monitor the dismantling of several of Iran’s already completed nuclear weapons. Lastly, the US has been researching technology to allow them to detect nuclear weapons which have been hidden. This will allow them to find many nuclear weapons in Iran, and other countries and make sure that the deal will be honored.
