The Target Effect by Samantha Lozinski
Everybody loves Target.(Including Me :)) You can buy anything there, and walk through the endless peaceful aisles, but, there is a science to Target, and it is quite interesting…
Starbucks! You have probably noticed by now that all Starbucks in Targets are always near the entrance. This makes it feel like a more welcoming, cozier vibe. (Plus, everybody loves Starbucks, so ya know.)
The store is so flawlessly set up. For example, “Right by the makeup, you'll find hair products. Next to hair products are the toiletries. Next to those are cleaning supplies and so on.” And, a lot of the seasonal stuff is in the back of the store (Halloween, Back to School, Easter, etc.) making sure you have to walk around or in all of the other aisles along the way.
The bright colors, the lighting, the perfectly arranged shelves. It all makes it look very aesthetic and appealing, making you want to BUY BUY BUY.
Discounts. With the dollar deal bins in the front, and the target app, it can be easy to find a deal, making that just one of the reasons why you should buy that 20 dollar item you don't really need.
The target carts. The shopping carts at Target are actually a third larger than the average cart! This encourages you to just fill it up right away.
And, finally, collabs. They collaborate with high end designers. They do this to get designer things at a fraction of the price. But sometimes you don’t really need that thing, but since it has a name attached to it, it seems more worthy of purchasing.
