Pope Francis Visits the United States by Nicole McFadden-Derer

Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic church, began his first visit to the United States on Tuesday, September 22nd. He was greeted by President Barack Obama at Joint Base Andrews, where he landed. On Wednesday, he lead a prayer in St. Matthew's Cathedral with bishops from the United States, and later that day he held a canonization Mass for Junipero Serra, an 18th century Spanish Franciscan missionary. On Thursday, he made an address to congress where he talked about controversial issues like immigration and climate change. At 4:00 PM, he left for New York City. In New York, he held a multireligious ceremony at the 9/11 memorial and lead a procession through Central Park. Later that day, he held a mass at Madison Square Garden. On Saturday, he made his way to Philadelphia.

That Sunday, he held mass with The World Meeting of Families. Being his biggest event in his visit to the U.S., it was broadcasted on several TV and radio stations. Tons of people attended with their tickets, as well as the thousands that watched and listened at home.

The Pope’s visit was extremely successful and was a religious experience for all. Even if you aren’t a Catholic, it was still special to have such an important world leader in our country.

Ramen Noodles: You Sure About That? by Alex Dasari and Amber Belli

Are you thinking about eating ramen for dinner tonight? Think again. This little tasty death trap is one of the most unhealthy foods! It contains uncontrollable amounts of sodium, BPA, MSG,  . Let’s take a look at what exactly is in these favored noodles.

You may buy Ramen in packets, or styrofoam cups. The packaging that holds Ramen contains bisphenol A (BPA). BPA is a substance that is used to harden plastics that are still in liquid form.  BPA can cause cancer, heart problems, and many other illnesses. Inside your package, you will find a brick of noodles, and a seasoning packet. Let’s start with the seasoning. This little packet contains about 1,875 milligrams of sodium! The recommended intake of sodium one should receive is about 1,500 milligrams. Monosodium Glutamate, or MSG, is another element found in the seasoning. MSG is a sodium salt used for giving flavor to foods. MSG can cause nausea, sweating, headaches, and even heart palpitations.

Now, what we’ve all been waiting for. The noodles themselves! To keep its texture, the noodles are coated propylene glycol. Propylene glycol is also used in antifreeze, and some tobacco products.  Want to know what the actual noodles are made of? Tertiary Butylhydroquinone, or TBHQ for short. TBHQ is normally added to foods, to prevent anything looking odd on processed foods. TBHQ can cause long term illness, and can cause death if too much is consumed.  If you have ever looked at the ingredients of ramen on the back of the package, you have probably see vegetable oil written on it. In most conditions, vegetable oil is good for you.But in this case, the makers of these instant noodles add palm oil instead. Palm oil is extremely high in saturated fat, which can lead to bad cardiac health.

Ramen is not always a bad thing. You can do many creative things with it such as adding veggies, eggs, or meat to make it better. You can make salads, soups, and much more with it too. Although it is extremely unhealthy, you can have ramen once in awhile. So every time you eat ramen on a regular basis, remember what you are doing to your body!

Anyone for Ramen tonight?

The Future of Construction by Matthew Stanier

3D printing has become very popular in the last few years and now some are taking it to the next level. The Big Delta is a 40 foot tall 3D printer- built by the World's Advanced Saving Project in Italy. The Big Delta uses what’s around it. Wherever it is put it uses the materials in that area to build whatever.

The huge printer can be used to build houses where they are needed. Whether it is building were natural disasters have occurred or where towns are in poverty.

These printers create a bright future for those who are living in poverty or who do not have a home. While tech may be causing problems it is also solving them around the world.

Post Iran Nuclear Deal by Ankur Purao

The United States - Iran nuclear talks have been dominating the news for the past couple of weeks, but what progress has actually been made. About a week ago a deal was reached limiting Iran’s nuclear stockpile, and destroying much of Iran’s already present nuclear stockpile. The congress, and house democrats have been trying to block the Iran deal, but the democrats have pushed it through. A couple days ago a last bid by the senate was made to block the Iran deal, but the deal was pushed through by senate majority leader John Boehner who led the bill to a 56-42 win. The republican majority held senate fell four votes short of killing the deal. This could be one of the biggest foreign policy deals that for Obama’s reign in office. The deal consists of limiting Iran’s nuclear stockpile to a set number, and the US will also monitor the dismantling of several of Iran’s already completed nuclear weapons. Lastly, the US has been researching technology to allow them to detect nuclear weapons which have been hidden. This will allow them to find many nuclear weapons in Iran, and other countries and make sure that the deal will be honored.

Dinosaur Egg Found in China by Byoungjin Kim

There was a movie called “The Land Before Time”, it’s basically about an adventure of different species little dinosaurs, but whether you have watched it or not, everybody should know what dinosaurs are right?  It’s a reptile that lived between 203.1 million of years ago during the Triassic Period to the end of Cretaceous 66 million years ago.  There are many species such as Tyrannosaurus (Chomper), means tyrant lizard, commonly known as T-Rex and the killer during Cretaceous era ; Apatosaurus (Littlefoot), means deceptive reptile, long neck and the biggest dinosaur in size ; Triceratops (Cera), means "three-horned face" from Greek, it has a little circular thing around their head ; Pteranodon (Petrie), means wing and toothless from Greek, they are able to fly ; Stegosaurus (Spike) means roof lizard or covered lizard, known as large, heavy, and slow ;.  The word in parentheses means the dinosaur type in the movie “The Land Before Time”.

The dinosaurs produce their next generation by having egg, and we all know that the dinosaurs had extinct because of the relatively warm climate, making high eustatic sea levels and creating numerous shallow inland seas.  Oceans and seas were populated with now-extinct marine reptiles, ammonites and rudists, while dinosaurs continued to take over the lands.  At the same time, new groups of mammals, birds, as well as flowering plants appeared, which created mass extinction, or the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event.  This event cause many groups, including non-avian dinosaurs, pterosaurs, large marine reptile, and so does the dinosaur eggs all died out.  But things appeared differently after millions and billions years later.

On Sunday, May 10, 2015, the road repair constructors unearthed 43 fossilized dinosaur eggs near the province of Guangdong(广东), China(中国) - Heyuan(河源).  Heyuan won the Guinness World Record for having the nearly 17,000 dinosaur eggs discovered since 1996 by children playing at a construction site and it’s all collected at Heyuan Museum.

Most of the eggs in the museum belong to oviraptor and duck-billed dinosaurs, which roamed the earth 89 million years ago.

On the road repair construction area, there’s full of researchers and construction workers kept digging down and trying to find more eggs.  The deputy director of Heyuan Museum Huang Zhiqing said that it’s the first time the dinosaur eggs are uncovered on bustling city center.

There were 19 intact eggs, and the largest egg measurement is 13 centimeters (5 inches).  The researchers are not sure which species they belongs to, but they say they will continue to exam the eggs.

Today, China holds the most amount of dinosaur eggs discovered, and Heyuan had the most in the world & China, the city is known as “Home of Dinosaurs“.

Freddy Gray-30 Days Later

In the 30 days since Freddie Gray died following injuries sustained in police custody, 34 people have been murdered in Baltimore. The city has seen more than 160 non-fatal shootings, a 60 percent increase from this time last year, and a 40 percent jump in homicides. This shows that the Freddie Gray beating, and death has not caused a decrease in violence as people realized what people had done. Instead, we can see that it has caused a spike in violence and other attacks.

We Will Find Alien Life before 2025 by Nicole McFadden-Derer

Everyone has a different opinion about Aliens. Do they exist? Are they really there? Well, a chief NASA scientist, and most of the organization, certainly think so.  "I think we're going to have strong indications of life beyond Earth within a decade, and I think we're going to have definitive evidence within 20 to 30 years," says NASA chief scientist Ellen Stofan. This is quite the exciting time in the science world.

The Hubble Space Telescope has lead to many discoveries and many scientists have found evidence of water on many celestial bodies, including the a dwarf planet called Ceres, and Jupiter's moon, Europa. Water is key to life, and if the living conditions are reasonable, there is certainly a chance.

"We are not talking about little green men,” Stofan admits, “We are talking about little microbes." Though some may think that this is boring, and microbes don’t count as aliens, the NASA scientists believe this is a remarkable discovery. John Grunsfeld, a former astronaut, thinks that this is a very exciting moment in time.

Think what you will, but space scientists, NASA researchers, and generally curious people alike are very excited. If extraterrestrials do exist, it will only be a matter of time until we find them.
