Four More Book Recommendations by Madison Mikita

May 16, 2024

With summer quickly approaching, it’s a great time to gather a list of books to read over the break. With that being said, here is a list of some of my favorite books. I hope you enjoy!

1. Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

A dystopian novel based in a post-apocalyptic world after a deadly flu sweeps the globe. It follows a variety of characters as their lives intertwine and change. It may be a bit dark for young readers but is a beautiful story of regret, change, and survival.

2. Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson

A memoir about the work of Byran Stevenson, a civil rights lawyer, as he fights to bring justice to those wrongfully convicted. This book focuses mainly on the case of Walter McMillian, but it also includes stories of other cases Stevenson has worked on. Just Mercy is inspiring, infuriating, and a great story for middle schoolers.

3. Genuine Fraud by E. Lockhart

An interesting and fast-paced story told in reverse. Jule takes on her dead best friend’s identity and flees from those who know too much. The only question is… why is she doing all this? And what secret is she hiding?

4. Five Survive by Holly Jackson

Six teenagers are in an RV heading to Gulf Shores for spring break. But after a couple of wrong turns, they find themselves on an abandoned road, with no cell service, four punctured tires, and a shooter waiting in the dark. Secrets come out, friendships are tarnished, and only five survive.
