Attack on Titan by Kirstiana Holes

Okay,  so we all know that one kid. Yeah, you know them. The Otaku* (*for a glossary of terms you’ll find in this article about anime, please refer to the bottom of the article). The one in the class that you call “weird.”  For those of you who don’t know, an otaku is a person who takes their “obsession” to a new level. Whether it’s a game, show, literature or even technology. It doesn’t matter. Their obsession drives them to become socially inept. You may be wondering why you’re even continuing this article. MY answer for you is quite simple. I don’t know. You probably don’t have anything better to do than sit and search the internet. Somehow, you ended up here. And now you may be regretting it. Just sit back and relax. I’m spending my time writing this for you so you might as well read it. And a reminder, I’m saving you from that homework that you’ve been putting off for the past 3 days. Mhm, that’s what I thought.

I would like to admit to something. I’m one of those kids. The one that sits at the back of the class. However, I’m not completely socially awkward. I talk...or at least when spoken to. That’s not the point. Today you’re here to listen to my rants about.....*yells* drum roll please! Anime!

Shingeki no Kyojin also known as Attack on Titan, is one of the most popular anime’s on earth with over 60 million copies of the manga in print. The Anime has 25 episodes along with 3 extra OVA’s. I would 100% recommend Attack on Titan to anyone who is watching an anime. However, be warned, it’s a little gruesome.

The main protagonist, Eren Jaeger, lives within the barriers of wall Maria. This is the outermost wall of two others. The next wall in is wall Rose which surrounds the innermost wall, wall Sina. These walls are about 50 meters in height. The year is 445 and the protagonist, Eren Jaeger, is seen in a field of violet flowers. The day starts out fine and normal until the walls come crashing down. Literally. The village can then be seen in ruins as titans and pieces of wall Maria come tumbling. He and his friends escape while their families and friends get eaten. You later find Eren promising to his best friends Armin and Mikasa saying that he will wipe out every single titan. There’s a time skip to a few years later when they’re able to start training to be able to kill the titans. Anyways, AOT has a great plot line and if you enjoy watching insane teenagers, titans, a little gore then by all means knock yourself out because Attack on Titan has what you are looking for.

I won’t give much more information than what I have because I don’t wish to spoil anything more. And now onto my opinions and thoughts. Yes, I know “What a drag.” You aren’t here to read my thoughts and all that jazz, but here me out: I’m a person that’s real and is out there. If you don’t want to read this then join the newspaper yourself and write it how you want it. It’s a lot of fun and simple. Back to the point. Please believe me when I say not all fans are the same. Some fangirls and fanboys are insanely scary. Do not check out the fandom until you finish the entire series or you’ll find spoilers are reasons to judge the show. Don’t judge it until you’ve gotten a good way through it. Personally, I’ve never had that problem because I’ve grown up around insane fans of all kinds. Yes, yes, including the weeaboos. I promise I’m not one of them. One of my favorite characters are Hanji Zoe or (Hange) depending on how you spell it. She’s the mad scientist type who conducts experiments on the titans in order to learn about their different habits and ways to stop them from destroying their society. I feel like that maybe Isayama (the creator of AOT/SNK) could have possibly added more detail as to where and how Eren got his key. All we know is that it was from his father. The scene was very vague with details. This also brings up the basement. What is really in that basement? Can we actually trust Eren’s father after what he did? And why do Mikasa and Levi share the same last name? Some of this can be answered in the manga. Other people only have theories but I think I have enough information to put together the pieces. My last question. Hm I better make this a good one. Why aren’t you taking your time to watch the show? You should catch up before season 2 comes out. (Screaming Fans in the background) Yes, I know. Most of this was just a ploy to be able to bring up Season 2. *Cough Cough* Which by the way, comes out February 2017. You could however get started with the manga though and learn more about what happens after season 1. I will warn you though, you may not roast marshmallows on the blond coconut. I’m not hinting more than that.

So, this article has been interesting. I hope I entertained you for a few minutes. I’m so sorry that none of that made any sense to new readers/watchers. Attack on Titan is really great. And remember to stay Shambolic...or not. I don’t know. Just watch the show.

Otaku’s Glossary:

Otaku- Someone who takes an interest in something more than the average person will. Until it becomes a daily habit that consumes their life. (Obsession)

Shingeki no Kyojin- Japanese for “Attack on Titan” The literal translation meaning Attack on Titan however, titan would be referred to as a name of someone.

Anime- First of all, have you been living under a rock? An anime is basically a japanese cartoon. Normally composed of Subtitles or voicing actors. This is so you can actually understand what they’re saying. It also comes in many languages.

Manga- Japanese Comic Book. Can also be written in a different language so you can understand what’s going on.

Attack on Titan- AOT is both an Anime and a Manga. AKA: Shingeki no Kyojin

Fangirl/Fanboy: A girl or boy who is a fan of something. (Ties into the Otaku thing)

Weeaboo: An English term for non-japanese people who pretend to be Japanese to an extreme level.

OVA- (Original Video Anime) These are extra episodes to an anime that don’t air on Television. They can only be viewed on VHS or DVD.

The question on almost all Apple users’ minds is, when is the next iPhone coming out? Well, it’s here, and it’s even bigger and better than all the iPhones ever created. The iPhone 7’s new and improved design leaves customers satisfied.

Design

Apple iPhone users have always been satisfied. But Apple wanted to step up the interior exterior and much, much, more.

People have been begging Apple to take the antenna bands out. So Apple has improved this by moving the antenna bands to the top of the phone. The Iphone comes in the colors ‘Rose Gold, Silver, Gold’,and the newest colors ‘Matte Black and Jetblack.’

The interior of the phone is water, dust, and splash resistant. The phones are constructed with 7000 Series aluminum. It can survive up to 1 meter in water for 30 minutes. This means you don’t have to worry about splashes or the rain and even dust getting on your iPhone.  One of the most unique things about this design is the fact that you can’t tell where the aluminum ends and where the glass starts.

The phone also comes with a new home button. It is designed to be durable, responsive, and pressure sensitive. Working with the new Taptic Engine, it gives you tactile feedback as you press. It’s even customizable! This home button also

The design on both the Iphone 7 and the Iphone 7 plus are exactly the same, except for their sizes. (7- 4.7 in.; 7 plus- 5.5 in.)

Extra Special Features

Just like the iPhone 6, 6 plus, 6s, and 6s plus it too comes with touch I.D. Touch I.D. is a fingerprint sensor that makes getting into your phone easier without putting in a password, making it easy and secure.

Another feature is Apple Pay. With Apple Pay you can pay instantly in stores, in apps, or just on the web. And even better, because you credit card details aren’t being shared with merchants or stored on your device, using Apple Pay is the safer way to pay!

Camera

The two new iPhones have new cameras that the world has been waiting for. The new 6 element lense makes you capture a more precise photo that you will most definitely enjoy. An optical stabilization camera allows better images in low light. The quad LED light enables better light for your photos and illuminates a  farther and better display for your photos.

Apple has come out with a the new iPhone 7 plus which has a bonus that no other iPhone has had before. The new telephoto camera creates better quality when you zoom up with the camera. This iPhone still has the normal camera but the two cameras are laid out in a weird way. The two cameras lay side by side on the back of the phone.   

Display

The iPhone 7 uses the same color space as the digital cinema industries in the effort to make the display noticeably more vibrant and brilliant. With a new wide color gamut, the display is able to deliver cinema standard colors- the best in the whole smartphone industry. More shades of the color spectrum can be used to create an image, meaning that what you see on the screen is a truer representation of where you actually took the picture.

Another feature the iPhone 7 offers is 3D Touch. With 3D Touch, your Iphone responds with a delicate touch. The new display strongly integrates 3D touch throughout IOS. You can now interact with Messages, Calendar, Mail, and other apps with a stronger, more responsive way.

Battery     

The iPhone 7 is supercharged by the most powerful chip in a smartphone. It’s faster and more efficient than all the other iPhones.  That’s because the A10 Fusion Chip uses a new architecture that causes faster processing when you need it. It also has the ability to use even less power when you don’t. I’m sure everyone has been wondering how you’re suppose to listen to your music privately without the headphone jack. It’s simple! With the iPhone 7 you get earbuds connecting to the charger hole. Apple also came out with Air Pods, which are wireless earbuds that are listed at the price of $159.    

Wireless and Cellular

iPhone 7 features LTE Advanced, with speeds up to 450 Mbps for data downloads- over 50 percent faster than the iPhone 6s and three times faster than the iPhone 6. And with even more LTE bands users have the best worldwide roaming available in a smartphone.

Finding Dory Movie Preview by Ellen Held

The very popular movie finding Nemo has a set date for it’s sequel Finding Dory. The date is June 17th 2016. In this movie the loveable but forgetful fish named Dory is on a quest to find her parents voiced by Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy. Dory will be voiced by Ellen Degeneres, Marlin will be voiced by Albert Brooks. Those are just a few people in cast there are many many more along with many new characters and more familiar ones. Although this movie is mostly targeted towards younger kids, anyone can watch it.

Local Teens to Help Adults with Technology by Joshua Gearhart

On Wednesday, some of my friends and I will be teaching adults how to use an iPhone and computers at my church. My friend Dillon is going to be talking to the group about the basics of  using a computer and the rest of us will be showing older adults how to use iPhones and other cell phones.  

Some of the tech we would be showing to the people include how to effectively use Google or YouTube. Other basic skills include how to get onto the Internet on their cell phone or on their computer and how to get to their email if they have one.  Many older adults don’t know how to use modern technology because they didn’t grow up with it the way that today’s kids have.

Indiana Jones 5 by Ellen Held

There has been a lot of talk over the past couple of years about another Indiana Jones movie which would make five. The talk has made a lot of Indiana Jones fan nervous or excited about maybe a new actor being casted as Indiana Jones, instead of Harrison Ford who has been cast as Indiana Jones since it’s first movie released in 1981.  Finally, just a few weeks ago the movie was announced to finally be a real and happening project. The release date is currently July 19, 2019 at the current date as stated by  IMDB. Whether to the relief or disappointment of fans Harrison Ford will once again be cast as Indiana Jones, Steven Spielberg is set to direct and has directed the previous four movies.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children The Movie by Imhotep King

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is an upcoming adventure fantasy movie coming in October, 2016.  It is directed by the one and only Tim Burton and is written by Jane Goldman.  

The movie is based of the hit 2011 novel by Ransom Riggs.  This movie features but not limited to Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Ella Purnell, Chris O’Dowd, Allison Janney, Terence Stamp, Kim Dickens, Rupert Everett, Judi Dench, and the infamous Samuel L. Jackson.

The story is about a 16-year old kid named Jacob Portman who accidentally ends up at Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and protects them from the creatures and monsters set out to destroy them.  This movie is one of the coolest movies coming out later this year. So check it out and enjoy!

Star Wars Episode 8 by Jason Chang

Even as Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens is still in theater, the movie crew is buzzing around, formulating a plot for the eighth episode! This mysterious, yet untitled film, shall begin filming next month in London. Excited, are you? Sorry, no spoilers! And to my surprise, even the crew is uncertain whether the plot is official. They say the script goes overtime, so it may have to be revised.

As far as the cast goes, the makers say that all actors and cast will reappear in the new episode, but they are considering whether Harrison Ford (Han Solo) will have a starring role. But could this new film be darker, scarier, and just as complex as Episode VII? I know of people that were unhappy with The Force Awakens. Some of my friends say it’s too complex, there’s too many new characters. Others say that the violence goes beyond the line of horror.

If these same characters are repeated in the new movie, this “dark” effect could be presented again, maybe even in a scarier way. "Rian Johnson is a friend of mine -- he's going to make some weird thing," the web site Independent.co.uk quoted him as saying. "If you've seen Rian's work, you know it's not going be like anything that's ever been in Star Wars."

Even the crew is unaware of  what will be presented in the new film. The crew states that key events, conflicts, and characters from The Force Awakens will be shown again. The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams assures the directors that Episode VIII is in good hands. But with Star Wars, you never know what's going to happen!

PS4 vs. XBox by Imhotep King

Are you wondering what console to beg your parents for?  Than this article is meant for you.  Some people prefer the more bulky feeling of the xbox one. On the other hand people prefer the slim and fast feeling of the playstation 4. I have gathered enough evidence to conclude that the playstation 4 and the xbox one are good in their own ways.

The Xbox One is more bulky than the ps4.  Some think this is a bad thing but it actually has its pluses. Imagine if you have some little children or a niece over for thanksgiving.  The xbox one is heavier than the ps4 so if they get ahold of your console it may be harder to lift.  So if you have lots of small children who like to touch things the Xbox One is for you.  The ps4 is slim and that is great because if you already have a blueray player and a tv and a bunch of stuff on your tv stand than the ps4is good for you.  It is great to put on its side and can fit in a small space.

If you want a fast paced console the ps4 is for you.  The ps4 has 1152 GPU cores while the xbox one only has 768 GPU cores.  The ps4 downloads 170.0 GB/s while the xbox one only downloads 68.3 GB/s.  The contrast on the ps4 is also superior.  SO if you like your blacks really dark and your whites really white than the ps4 is for you.  The xbox one may have less contrast but sometimes that is good.  Like when you are on a night mission in call of duty or searching through a cave in minecraft, having less contrast may be a plus.

    The ps4 has a more comfortable home screen and it is less complex than the xbox one so if you like it simple go with the ps4.  So if you feel like sifting through and spending one hardcore week trying to map the xbox one’s complex homescreen then be my guest. Plus the ps4 allows you to remove the memory card completely and replace it while the xbox one only allows you to add some more.

The controller on the xbox one is really comfortable but it is dwarfed to the ps4.  The xbox one controller is bulky but comfortable.  If you have an extra 50 dollars in your back pocket than you can get the xbox one elite controller.  It is amazing and has loads of improvements.  But the ps4 controller is amazing without having to spend an extra 150 dollars. I has a touch pad on the front that opens whole new worlds to game makers.  It also comes fully equipped with small speakers built into the controller making reloads and dialects seem close or far.

 Last but not least we all know the reason you get a console is for the games.  The games only  on the xbox one are but not limited to Halo 5: Guardians,  Forza motorsport 5 and Rare replay.  Plus the xbox one gets updates for minecraft first.  Impressive but the ps4 has Infamous: Second Son, Killzone Shadow Fall and Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn.  Not to mention the ps4 receives updates for destiny and is a better play for the new hit game Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

The ps4 is a hardware nut but the xbox one isn't too far behind and has higher rated games.  All and all, the decision is up to you which console you get but, I hope I was a help. Thank you for reading this article.

Addicting Games by Justin Lee

Addicting games to children and our society have caused large impacts on us. They have become major problems for children who take these games too seriously. Because they enjoy the fun, a video game to children can become an alternate world where there are rules particular to that world, much like the video games which are being played.

The plus side to games that can be addicting is that they relieve stress and offers escape from life problems, so they tend to focus on what's right in front of them. It eases their pain, headaches, and stress about school and life. That's why video games are fun to them and don’t like them being taken away most of the time.  But, just like in real life, there is no such thing as ‘perfect’. Everything has a good and bad qualities, just like video games’ effects on children.

There are thousands of different types of metals in the universe, but there are only a couple that people would risk their lives for. Among those would be gold, silver and platinum. But there are other kinds of money that people are willing to do almost anything to get: bitcoins.

Now, bitcoins aren't really real, they are digital. But, even still, people all around the world try to steal these bitcoins. Because they are digital, people can make however many of them they want to make instantly with the click of a button. So, if somebody figured out how to make them, they could make infinite amounts of money at will. These bitcoins are still a test in progress, as governments around the world use them as unsurely, unsure about losing trillions of dollars by using them. Right now, it costs $388.42 to get one bitcoin.

Now, gold, on the other hand is worth a little more than a piece of digital data. The market price for one ounce of gold right now is $1,239.06. That might seem expensive to you, but to many people gold is more valuable than cash. Because gold is worth that same $1,239 in every country in the world, if the US economy crashed and cash wasn't worth anything anymore, your gold would still be worth the same as it was before in any country. This goes with other precious metals as well.

The current market price for one ounce of silver is $15.82, which is quite affordable. Now, you can definitely see that silver is not quite worth as much as gold, and as much as you may have thought it was worth.

Clash Royale by Jason Chang

Supercell has brought a new apps game to the market! Clash Royale is a big-hit game that I especially like. If you’re reading this Clash fans, this game might well be for you. It’s free, interactive, and strategic! Choose your soldiers and fight! Battle with players in real time, join other players and form clans, groups of players that help each other out!

But you know what? Getting the game is a lot harder than playing the game. You see, Clash Royale is only available in the Canadian app store! Unless you live in Canada, you might as well give up trying to play this game. The end! Actually, there is a working, yet risky way to download it, but it involves behavior too risky for average gamers.

Clash Royale also allows you to purchase game gems for REAL money! Some people are anxious to reach mastery, so they spend their hard-earned money for gems!  If you want mastery, you’ve got to earn it! Play hard and practice, use your effort to inch your way to mastery!

Sadly, for every positive example of media, there’s a negative one: gamer cyberbullying.  There are plenty of light-hearted, kind players out there. But those mean cyberbullies are lurking around. The new game doesn’t restrict posting of inappropriate comments. Cyberbullies can say whatever they want, completely undetected! And no-one likes getting kicked out! From my experiences, there are some leaders who kick out weaklings to have complete power.

But, the game has many five-starred reviews, which persuaded even me to download it. As a player, I totally rate this as a brain game! I love all the graphics, new troops, and arenas! Try playing it, just for a couple days. You’ll find it very hard to quit!

New Cleaning Robot by Hely Parmar

At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, a new robot has been made by Ecovacs Robotics named the WINBOT. It specialises in cleaning dirt from high windows, which are usually not easily accessible by humans. A representative from Ecovacs Robotics, Matthew Sekelick, says that they are releasing two new models sometime this year. “It’s primary benefit is with little effort it reaches hard-to-reach places and it has safety in mind so you’re not climbing,” Mr. Sekelick said. “It frees you up to live smarter and enjoy life.”

One version of this robot can clean barbecue grills, which is called the Grillbot. It’s perfect for summer cookouts and parties. They also come in four colors, and addition to that, they have their own brains to control their speed and power. They are controlled by three electric motor, which also include three replaceable brushes. These robots will help out people who don’t like to clean their houses!

Miss Universe Mix Up by Hely Parmar

Host Steve Harvey made a horrendous mistake by crowning the wrong Miss Universe on Sunday night, January 20th at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. He announced Miss Columbia instead of Miss Philippines.

The first runner- up of the pageant was found surrounded by other women supposedly crying. The crown was removed from a sad Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo, and placed on a stunned Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, the German first place winner, after Harvey apologized and admitted to his mistake. He also tweeted an apology on Monday, the 21st. “I'd like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible.” And in another tweet, “I don’t want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants. They were all amazing.” It was merely a reading mistake, not a typo. I’m sure it won’t be the last of us seeing the damsel in distress. At least the whole pageant world knows who Miss Philippines is now.

Don’t let this happen to you! Due to the creation of the free “Insta Agent” app, people now have the ability to turn into crooks and steal people’s passwords. Literally! A popular app, more than 500,000 people have downloaded the secret app.  Everybody needs to change their passwords NOW, because if some sneaky person gets on your profile, who knows what will happen? "These types of third-party apps violate our platform guidelines and are likely an attempt to get access to a user's accounts in an inappropriate way," Instagram warned.

Despite the fact that Apple has removed “Insta Agent” from the app store, the news is constantly spreading, more and more people are downloading it! It can be scary knowing that other people know who you are. David Reiss was exposed to this unfortunate moment. His password was stolen and given to an anonymous server. The server is the property of ZunaMedia.com, but it is unclear who owns that site. The creator of “Insta Agent” is Turker Bayram, yet no created servers were under his name. So who’s behind this worldwide crisis? Until we know, change your password! Your privacy may depend on it.

Mountaineering Robot by Matthew Staniar

Going to climb a mountain this weekend? Maybe for fun?  For some people they have to do it for their job, so this is music to their ears.  Now imagine climbing with a robot companion.

James Capper has just developed a mountaineering robot that has hydraulic legs and can conquer even the hardest terrain.This robot is controlled by a remote control box that is connected to the bot with a thick wire. One of the big things with this robot is it will be able climb inclined terrain, and possibly climb up steep rocky mountains with ease.

Now all of this is potential. At the moment it is very slow and can only be operated from a large remote control that is connected to it by a wire so to operate a human must be close by, but if Mr.Caper can continue to modify it, it could be revolutionary. This bot is very cool and hopefully it will help people in the near future.

In the game even know the game is a single player but I like playing it without seeing other players.  It is not a violent game but a peaceful running alien game.   The alien is the character and it is running constantly but you can get a laugh out of it if you like to laugh at the games.

This holiday season, people all over the world are raving about their new Hoverboard. The platform that takes a lean to move. But little do they know that soon enough they will be riding on a bomb. It sounds impossible that such a popular product can be a hazard, but due to the fact that there is a faulty plug or battery, they can overheat and burst into flames.  This can be caused by overcharging the battery and making it overheat.

Most of the faulty boards are bought online, so that could be part of the cause. Yet still some bought in stores were released with faulty plugs that did not meet British standards. London has already made them illegal, yet they can still be found with people riding them around the streets.

The only place that is permitted to ride in London is on private property. These restrictions are also in place in New York.  California has made hoverboards legal to ride on bike paths starting on January 1st. So, if you are thinking about a hoverboard this holiday season, you may want to think again.  

Remembering Michael Jackson by Kashawn Quick

On June 25, 2009, Michael Jackson died of acute intoxication at his home on North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles. His personal physician, Conrad Murray, said he had found Jackson in his room, not breathing and with a barely detectable pulse, and that he administered CPR on Jackson to no avail. After a call was placed to 9-1-1 at 12:21 p.m., Jackson was treated by paramedics at the scene and was later pronounced dead at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

They all sound familiar as a joke… Right?.. Well, no. From as long as we can remember, the rumor of aliens has been around for a long time. They seem to exist from TV shows telling us stories, pictures, and theories.

But, have you ever seen or thought about this? Aliens are based on these green creatures with large heads, and large black eyes. Over the years at NASA Headquarters, something strikes the signal.

Detected by Jerry R. Ehman, they receive a signal from a group of stars known as the Chi Sagittarii Star group. This signal is a deep, dark hollow noise, like noises in a cave. This signal came from space, around the Earth, barely near it. The “WOW!” part comes from the numbers in the signal known as, 6EQUJ5 6 7. This code means August 15, 1977. This happened many years ago, when we hadn’t received any new signals. Then we received one last signal.

The signal was from the same place located. After a while of attempting to bring the broadcast back, we got a morse code message. It read, “We weren't talking to you.” This is infact true, NASA has tried to roam the area of where it was located, but it would take many, many years. This signal is very popular, and seems to be the only signal ever decoded, and the first being from another world, to communicate with us.

What does this mean? It means we aren't alone, we could be dealing with high tech technology, enemies that could wipe us all out, or allies. This question is truly terrifying. We can only wait and watch. There's a popular military base known as Area 51. Area 51 has rumors of capturing aliens, testing them, and using aircrafts. This is a very serious fact. No information has been released and it seems like a joke.
