Why does Gum Lose Its Flavor? by Roman Corl

Chewing gum is a soft, chewy,  flexible substance that can come in many sizes and shapes, but do you really know why the flavor of gum goes away?

You see, gum is not the same as all foods. Let's say you're eating a burger or a hotdog. You keep chewing, eventually you swallow it, and there would be nothing left. With chewing gum, you keep chewing and chewing, and the only thing that would happen is the flavor would go away.

Chewing gum doesn’t break into pieces when you chew it. But the most common reason chewing gum flavor goes away is because the sweetness dissolves in your mouth. With normal food, you can chew it and it would have taste, and you eventually swallow the food. With gum, however, you chew it but you wouldn’t swallow because it doesn’t break into pieces. Because of that, the flavoring  chemicals would eventually dissolve into your mouth.
