NAQT Quiz Bowl Tournament at Park Forest By Michelle Zhang

On Saturday, March 18th, Park Forest Middle School hosted a Quiz Bowl tournament. If you don’t know what Quiz Bowl is, it’s basically like Jeopardy or a trivia contest with buzzers. The questions range from literature, math, science, geography, history, and current events.

Schools from Middlesex, Connecticut; Cambria County, and Somerset County came to compete. A total of 20 teams competed. Each team played 4 games against each team in their division (there were 4 divisions: North, West, South, and East and 5 teams in each), and based off those rankings our Quiz Bowl coach, Mr. Klingeman, arranged a round robin tournament based off each team’s seed. The Round Robin games were split into 5 divisions: Championships A and B, and Consolations A, B, and C.

The top four teams in the championships played each other to determine who would receive the top four ranks, and the top three teams at the tournaments would get qualified for the NAQT National Middle School Tournament in Dallas!

The top individual scorers were Anthony Hasset from Westmont Hilltop Middle School, Alex DelVicchio from Middlesex Middle School, and Kueyoung Kim from Park Forest Middle School. The teams that qualified for nationals are Middlesex teams A and B, and our Park Forest A team! Congratulations to everyone who participated!
