Herr Strock: German Teacher by Jayden Kelly

German, what a wonderful language!  Did you know that English is actually a Germanic language? You can learn that if you take German!

Herr Strock is a great teacher, he’s pretty funny too!  When you have German in sixth grade, these are some things expect…

Herr Strock’s Story:

“I've been teaching German for over 11 years now. I began as a German teacher on Long Island, NY but then took a short break from teaching German when I moved to Germany for a year and taught English to students in middle and high school. When I returned to the US, I moved to Central PA and taught German at a high school for 5 years. I then taught German at Susquehanna University as an adjunct professor for one year before moving to State College to teach at Park Forest Middle School.”

How Herr Strock Likes To Teach (It’s Cool):

“I teach using a natural approach to language learning. This is similar to how babies learn to speak. Babies are constantly listening to and trying to understand the adults around them. Parents are careful to speak slowly, choosing words that are easy for a baby to understand. Once a baby has heard the same words many times and has had lot of practice identifying them, they will try to repeat them. With help from their parents correcting them, babies slowly learn to speak over time. This is exactly how my students learn to speak in my class. They are never asked to repeat words; they're only asked to focus on the message I'm communicating.”

For all the sixth graders who are taking German, please know that it is not a class to be bored in. Herr Strock is a very exciting person, and by the time you’re done with the trimester of German, you will be a pro at standing on desks. When Herr Strock teaches you, he will teach you the basics so that you you can branch off of that. He will teach you things like Hund (pronounced hoont) which means dog, and Katze (pronounced kah-tsuh). You will also learn Gaët Which can be used in the term “Gaët to die Ecke” Which means, “Get In The Corner.” You Should Tell Him That On The First Day Of German!
