NASA’s little drone Ingenuity is getting ready for its 20th flight on Mars nearly 11 months after its first flight on the red planet last April.
Flight 19 was successfully completed on February 7, 2022, Ingenuity safely landed within the designated landing at South Séítah, where it took over flights last Summer.
Flight 20 will continue Ingenuity’s march alongside Perseverance back to Perseverance’s landing location: Octavia E. Butler Landing Site. From there, the two robotic partners will begin traveling to the Jezero Craters river delta. Although they are both headed to the same meeting point, Ingenuity and Perseverance will take different routes to get to the river delta. The Perseverance rover will have to take the long drive, and Ingenuity will be able to take many long flights over to the Delta.
Ingenuity is planned to travel 1,280 feet at an altitude of 32.8 feet and a maximum speed of 10.1 mph. The flight is currently planned for Feb 25.
