It was a hot Sunday night in Arizona. Two hard-playing NFL teams would play each other in the biggest game of their seasons. The teams playing were Tom Brady’s New England Patriots and Russell Wilson’s Seattle Seahawks.
There wasn’t much action in the first quarter as the score remained 0-0. But one minute and ten seconds into the 2nd quarter Tom Brady threw an 11 yard touchdown to Brandon LaFell to make the score 7-0 in the Patriots favor. But two drives later the Seahawks have the ball on New England’s 3 yard line. It’s 3rd & 2 and the pressure is on for the Seahawks. Russell Wilson hands the ball off to Marshawn Lynch, aka Beastmode for a 3 yard touchdown. But the Patriots won’t go down so easily.
With 36 seconds left before halftime Tom Brady throws a beautiful touchdown pass to one of his weapons Rob Gronkowski. But with 36 seconds left, one of the best drives I’ve seen occurred. Stephen Gostkowski boots the kickoff to the back of the endzone for a touchback. Seattle takes the ball at the 20. On 1st & 10 Robert Turbin takes the ball out to their own 39. A few plays later Russell Wilson throws a bullet 11 yard touchdown pass over to undrafted rookie Chris Matthews. Next thing you know it’s halftime and Katy Perry’s left shark dancer really made himself popular with some really weird dance moves.
At the start of the third quarter the Seahawks receive the ball. The drive ended with a 27-yard field goal to make the score 17-14 with eleven minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Six plays into the Patriots drive, Tom Brady is intercepted by Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner. A few plays later Russell Wilson throws a 3 yard touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin to make the score 24-14, all Patriots fans have lost hope.
There was no other scoring until eight minutes remaining in the 4th quarter when Tom Brady threw a beautiful 4-yard touchdown pass to Danny Amendola. That made the score 24-21 still in the Seahawks favor.
The Seahawks have to take a 3 and out on their next drive. On the Patriots drive, Tom Brady threw yet another short-yardage touchdown to Julian Edelman to make the score 28-24. The Seahawks had two minutes to win it. With under a minute Russell Wilson threw a pass that was deflected by Malcolm Butler and bounced off Jermaine Kearse’s leg, up in the air, into the hands of Kearse. A few plays later, the Seahawks had the ball at the Patriots 1 yard line. Now you’d think Seattle would just run the ball up the middle and would win the game off of a 1 yard touchdown run….. But no, Pete Carroll decided, “I think we’re gonna pass the ball.” Well, they passed the ball, someone caught it. That someone is Malcolm Butler, the Patriots cornerback who should’ve been MVP. Everyone thinks all of the excitement was over. But, no. Michael Bennett and Bruce Irvin decide to get disqualified by getting in a fight with Rob Gronkowski and other players. In my opinion, I don’t like Super Bowls that end with a kneel. Somehow, Tom Brady won MVP and won a car.
