Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies by Haskel Canagrajah

Baseball has started! It’s a new season and a chance for a new team to be crowned champion, but it all starts with the regular season. Here are the previews for your Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies:

The Pittsburgh Pirates lost in the playoffs to the eventual champion, the San Francisco Giants. It was a disappointing end to their season. The previous year they got a playoff berth for the first time in 21 years, so that was a high for them. There are many things to look forward to for the Pirates, they have Andrew McCutchen  who is in the prime of his career, and they also have lots of young talent on their roster.

The Philadelphia Phillies season last year did not go as planned, they finished with a record of 73 wins and 89 losses. This could be a good year for the Phillies. They lost a few guys to free agency, and traded a few guys. They lost by a lot on opening day, an 8-0 loss to the Red Sox. Hamels is a bright spot for the Phillies in the pitching game, they also picked up some key free agents.
