Thursday Night Football: Giants @ 49ers by Quinn Cunningham

September 20, 2023

The Giants and 49ers play on Thursday night football to kick off week three of a crazy 2023 NFL season. The Giants and 49ers are playing for the first time since the 2020 season. The 49ers demolished the Giants 36-9, which is a game the Giants will try to forget.

I will start with the away team.  The Giants  are 1-1. The Giants got destroyed by the Cowboys in their first game by an embarrassing score of 40-0. They also had a very slow start in their second game, getting out scored 20-0 in the first half but then out scoring the Cardinals 31-8 in the second half. The Giants are missing their star running back Saquon Barkley, who is out with a right ankle injury.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has thrown for 425 yards in his first two games and has thrown two touchdown passes and three picks.  He has a completion percentage of 63.1% and has also run for 102 yards with one rushing touchdown.  The Giants leading receiver is Darren Waller, the Giants 8th year tight end out of Georgia Tech. Waller has nine receptions for 112 yards. Overall the Giants are ranked to have the 23rd best offense and the 15th best defense.

The 49ers are 2-0 and are an electric team that has a great chance to go far this year. The 49ers in Week One killed the Steelers 30-7 and then in Week Two controlled the game and took the win in Los Angeles defeating the Rams 30-23. The 49ers are heavily favored in this game to take a win.

The 49ers offense has been outstanding in their first two games with the 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy who has passed for 426 yards and two touchdown passes. He also has a pass completion percentage of 66.7%. He also has thrown zero interceptions on the season. The 49ers leading rusher is Chritian Mccaffrey who has run for 268 yards and two rushing touchdowns. The 49ers leading receiver is Brandon Aiyuk who has 172 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.

In conclusion, I think that the 49ers will beat the Giants by a score of 38-17. The Giants offense will not be explosive enough to make the game close.  The Giants defense will not hold up long enough to get through the game with a win.
