Penn State vs SMU and Looking Ahead By: Marshall Laskowski, Harrison Meyer

The Penn State Nittany Lions will play the SMU Mustangs on December 21st in the newly created college football playoffs. This will be one of the most influential games in recent Penn State history. This is one of the best games of the day and will be on TNT at noon.

Penn State is led by Star quarterback Drew Allar, who just opted to come back next year. He had 2894 total passing yards, with more than a third of those going to Tyler Warren. Drew has also improved greatly in his quick decision-making and running abilities. He has 27 total touchdowns and 7 interceptions this season. Nicholas Singleton also leads the Nittany Lions with 838 rushing yards, 6.4 yards per carry, and 7 touchdowns.

SMU is led by quarterback Kevin Jennings who had 3,050 passing yards and 22 touchdowns as well as 379 yards on the ground and 5 touchdowns. They also have a decent running back in Brashard Smith who had 1,270 yards and 14 touchdowns averaging 5.9 yards per attempt.

I (Harrison) believe that Penn State will come out victorias with a score of 25 to 17. Marshall thinks Penn State will win 31-27.

Now we will get into PSU’s path to the national championship. Now we have to remember that all teams in the CFP are excellent and this will not be easy. Many people think that the Nittany Lions have one of the easiest paths in the playoffs. After their game against SMU assuming they win in this case they will take on Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl on December 31. After that, they would take on the winner of Notre Dame/Indiana and Georgia in the Cotton Bowl. Then if possible they would be onto the National Championship. If they can win all of those games they will be National champs but it won’t be easy!
