Connor Bedard is projected to be one of the best players in the history of the NHL, and some people say he might even break Gretzky’s point record. He was drafted by the Blackhawks in 2023. This will make it hard for him to break Gretzky’s record because he is on a bad team.
Connor does not have the assets that Gretzky did on his team. Connor’s team, the Blackhawks, are not the best team in the NHL, and he doesn't have the teammates to give him the points he needs. His contract is only 3 years though, so he could go to a different team in a few years, though we can’t know what team that would be. He would need all the years he can get to break the record.
We think if Bedard is going to be great, he needs great players around him. Right now, we feel like Connor will be good but not great if he stays with his team. Gretzky made the playoffs with the Oilers a handful of times, but we just don’t think the Blackhawks can.
Overall, we do not think Connor Bedard will break the record for points. If he gets traded he might have a chance, but right now, no, he will not break the all-time points record.
