By now, billions of people have heard about the Israel-Hamas war that is going on right now. If you haven’t, you should read about it before you read this. This war has been a mash of missiles, assaults, and chaos on the ground and in the air in Israel and the Gaza Strip. But did you know that there are effects in the U.S.? Here’s more on the topic.
Some of the obvious effects in Israel and Gaza are buildings being reduced to a pile of rubble, the Israeli bombardment of the north side of the Gaza Strip, and many lives lost. But it goes deeper than that. Wars usually cut food supplies. This one certainly has. According to the Associated Press, the average Palestinian is living off two pieces of bread a day. That’s like only being able to eat a small breakfast every day.
And it’s not just food that is troubling the people in Gaza. They need something that we often take for granted. Water supplies are low. And with so many people who need it, the current supply will likely drain quickly. And if that happens, then Palestinians will have very little to eat and pretty much nothing to drink.
Now let’s jump to the U.S.. There have been many arguments and fights about the war, some of which are happening in colleges. Physical fights are breaking out with people disagreeing about some things in the conflict. Jewish students have been harassed more, but they are not the only ones. Muslims have also been harassed, and president Biden is trying to make an act to help better protect them (both Jewish people and Muslim people).
This war has shown us how much big news headlines can impact a nation like ours thousands of miles away. We learn from the news, but there is also a lot of opinion sharing which can impact the reality of the situation. And I don’t think this war will end soon. One of the possibilities that I came up with for the result of this war would be like the Vietnam War. Israel could gain some control, but with Hamas constantly running and hiding, they could become basically unbeatable.
But however this war may end, we should all hope that it will end soon. Because I don’t know how much more of this madness the world can take.
