Did you know that coffee can affect your school work in a really big way? Kids often think it’s cool, or quote on quote “hip” to stop at Starbucks before school and after school. But next time you drink your pumpkin spice latte remember that it contains a white powder that stays in your body for hours, can kill you, and gives you a real medical condition. This white powder is called 1, 3, 7 trimethylxanthine. Or commonly known as caffeine.
Caffeine stays in your body for hours. When you drink coffee it takes 45 minutes for your tissues to absorb the caffeine, but it takes WAY longer for them to get rid of it. It takes 4 hours for the human body to eliminate one half of the caffeine. But that doesn’t mean the caffeine is gone in 8 hours. The body takes twice as long to get rid of the second half of the caffeine, meaning that it takes 12 HOURS to get rid of all the caffeine in your cup of coffee. That means that you wouldn’t get enough sleep and that would effect you school work in a big way.
Caffeine can kill. It’s rare, but totally possible. You would have to drink 30-50 coffee cups in a twelve hour period for it to happen but if you drink too much coffee you can get seizures, vomiting, muscle tremors, and even respiratory collapse. These side effects can easily happen if you take pure caffeine pills. They might keep you a awake and help you lose weight but it’s not worth the side effects. Because the medical conditions can screw over your school work and even your life.
There is such a thing called caffeine withdrawal. In the psychology handbook Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders it tells about how if people that routinely drink coffee every day can have withdrawal effects like grumpiness, trouble thinking, fuzzy eyesight, and can get really tired. These withdrawal effects can affect your social life and school life. Because let’s be honest, who wants to hang out or work on a project with somebody who's grumpy all the time.
Are you feeling stressed with school? Well caffeine and coffee make it way worse. Caffeine increases blood pressure, heart rate, and production of stress hormones. So if you drink coffee and is stressed out with school try drinking a little less each day to get rid of the withdrawal effects so you can be more calm and focus on you school work more.
There you have it. That’s four big ways that caffeine can impact your body, social life, and school life in a negative way.
