The Life of An Artist by Sam Liechty

Alexander Calder was born on August 22, 1898 in Lawnton, Pennsylvania.

From a young age, Mr.Calder knew that he wanted to be an artist. His parents disapproved on this subject.  They said it was to hard to make a living as an artist and demanded that he took engineering at Institute of technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. He went to work as a mechanic for Navy Boats.

He later decided to pursue his dream of art. He married Louisa Jane and started a family and a career as an artist. He died at the age of 78 in 1976 after a successful career as an artist.

Some of his favorite styles of art were not paintings, though. He enjoyed making sculptures and mobiles. For those of you who don’t know what a mobile is it is a hanging sculpture that is balanced.
