The Patriots have traded 3-time pro bowl selection Michael Bennett to the Cowboys for 2021 seventh-round draft pick. Bennett has 65.5 sacks, 13 forced fumbles and 182 quarterback hits in 11 seasons in the NFL. This may seem like a very bad trade for the Patriots and a very good trade for the Cowboys. It will stay a good trade for Dallas if Bennett can stay healthy and out of trouble. They would have most likely gotten a player of much lower caliber than Bennett in the seventh round of 2021.
For the Patriots, this is not a good trade for them from a quick glance, but Bennett has only played 133 snaps this season. He is coming off of a one-week, team-issued suspension that could have been the last straw after the Patriots switched to a 3-4 defensive set-up, bringing a blow to Bennett’s snaps early in this current season. Lawrence Guy, Deatrich Wise Jr, and John Simon will be the main defensive ends for the Patriots going forward. The Cowboys got themselves a top-caliber defensive end in this trade, but I doubt he will play this coming week. He will need a few weeks to learn the Cowboys playbook, but he should be a big help in the Cowboys’ quest for the playoffs late in the season.
