The World Series ended on Saturday night, November 5th, with the Astros pulling out on top winning the series 4 games to 2 games. Let’s recap all of the games in America's pastime greatest event.
Game 1 was the best game of the entire series hands down. Justin Verlander got the start for the Astros and Aaron Nola got the start for the Phillies. The Astros got hot quickly in the series with 5 runs in the first 3 innings. But, the Phillies rallied back, scoring in the 4th and 5th to tie the game, and it stayed like that for the rest of the game until the 10th inning where J.T Realmuto hit a big fly to pull ahead and win the game in extras.
Game 2 was a bit different. The Astros still scored early in the 1st and 5th to put up 5 in the game, the Phillies scored late with two runs but that was not enough to grab the win. The Astros stole that game. The Series was tied 1-1, the next 3 games would be in Philadelphia.
Game 3 was a record breaking game, with the Phillies combining to hit 5 home runs in the game. Alec Bohm, Kyle Schwarber, Rhys Hoskins, J.T Realmuto, and a monster shot by Bryce Harper gave the Phillies a 7 to 0 win over the Astros at Citizen Bank Field in Philly.
Game 4 was an electric game with the Houston Astros combining to throw a no-hitter. Christian Javier kick started the game with 6 no-hit innings, with Bryan Abreau coming in to strike out the side. Then reliever Rafeal Montero breezed through the Phillies order, sending them back to the bench. Finally closer Ryan Pressly shut the door in the face of the Phillies, closing out this spectacular outing for the Astros pitchers.
Game 5 was the last game in Philadelphia for the series, with the Astros ace Justin Verlander facing newly acquired pitcher Noah Syndergaard. Jose Altuve hit a triple to the wall in the first with Jeremy Pena getting the RBI single to give the Astros the start they needed to pull ahead and win the game.
Game 6 was the lid on the coffin of the Phillies grave. The game was tied going into the 6th inning, where the Phillies struck first giving them the one run lead. But in the bottom of the 6th, the Astros offense exploded with four runs of their own, and that's how the game (and the series) ended.
Rookie Jeremy Pena got the MVP of the World Series with his .400 batting average in the series. But unfortunately, baseball has to come to a close and will not be back until next March.
It was a great series with lots of action, drama, and a 450 foot home run by Yordan Alverez.
