Rose Bowl Preview by Andrew Zajac

December 14, 2022

On January 2nd, 2023 in Pasadena, California, the Utah Utes will face off against the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Rose Bowl game.

The Utah Utes are ranked 7th in the country and just coming off winning the Pac-12 championship, beating the USC Trojans 47-24 in Las Vegas. The Penn State Nittany Lions are ranked 9th in the country, going 10-2 on the season and barely making it to the Rose Bowl by both Michigan and Ohio State making it to the College Football Playoff. This will be a highly anticipated game with Penn State making the Rose Bowl four times but only winning once, and Utah making it last year but losing in dramatic fashion to the Ohio State Buckeyes 48-45. Utah is favored to win by 2.5 points, with the predicted score being 26 to 24.

The Penn State Nittany Lions are coming off a strong season, only losing to Michigan and a close game to Ohio State. Their super senior Quarterback, Sean Clifford, is playing in his last game, but they have lots of young talent that can propel them to a major bowl game in the year to come.  They are coming in as underdogs, but many people think they can pull off the win because they have more experience in the Rose Bowl. They have young talent with Nick Singleton, their explosive running back, and a pair of great wide receivers in Mitchell Tinsley and KeAndre Lambert-Smith. They are the away team in this game and are looking to pull off the upset.

The Utah Utes are also coming off an impressive season, going 10-3 and beating the USC Trojans in the Pac-12 championship. They have outstanding talent across the board, with a great Quarterback in Cameron Rising and a pair of show-stopping running backs with Tavion Thomas and Micah Bernard. They are looking to redeem themselves after last year's loss in the Rose Bowl against Ohio State. They are hungry for a major bowl game win;  if they pull it off, it will be their third major bowl game win in their history.

This will be a great game with lots of drama and maybe even an upset! See you soon!
