Very Early Opening Day Preview by Marshall Laskowski and Zeke Gagliardi

February 15, 2024

The opening day in the MLB is in about two months and we will be giving a preview of the games. There are some exciting games to begin the season including many in-division games and rivalries. Some of the games that should be great are: Braves @ Phillies, Yankees @ Astros, Cubs @ Rangers, and Cardinals @ Dodgers. We will give a short preview of each game and a score prediction.

Rockies @ Diamondbacks

The Rockies are not a great team, but they have some young talent. As for the Diamondbacks they are coming off a World Series appearance and have a very good core of players.

Score Prediction: 5-1 Diamondbacks

Cardinals @ Dodgers

The Cardinals are coming off an abysmal season, but still have a good core and signed some good players. The Dodgers are the most exciting team in the MLB with super high expectations (and Shohei Ohtani.).

Score Prediction: 4-3 Dodgers

Giants @ Padres

The Giants are not the best team but have made some additions this offseason with Robbie Ray being the biggest addition. The Padres still have lots of talent even after trading Juan Soto but they definitely got worse this offseason

Score Prediction: 7-6 Giants

Nationals @ Reds

The Nats are one of the worst teams in the MLB but they could have a solid season if they call up Dylan Crews. The Reds like the Nats are also young and talented with Elly De La Cruz being the star player.

Score Prediction: 6-1 Reds

Brewers @ Mets

The Brewers made the playoffs last year and have most of the team back so they should be looking to get back to the playoffs again. The Mets were highly disappointing last season and don’t have the same roster as they had at the start of last season so they might be in for another down year.

Score Prediction: 10-5 Brewers

Pirates @ Marlins

The Pirates should be pretty good this year since they have lots of young and good players and some solid veterans. The Marlins made the playoffs last year and have lots of talent and a great leader in Luis Arraez.

Score Prediction: 8-5 Pirates

Braves @ Phillies

This should be a close game saying that these teams are division rivals and they have faced each other in the last two NLDS. In those last two seasons the Braves have won the divisions both years with over one hundred wins each year but were defeated both years by the underdog Phillies in the playoffs.

Score prediction 5-4 Braves

Yankees @ Astros

These two teams should both end up having pretty solid seasons saying that both of these teams combined have made the playoffs a total of 13 times in the last 7 years. Altho the Yankees didn’t make the playoffs last year, their solid pitching staff should get them through their season. The Astros haven’t missed the playoffs since 2016 and they even came out with a world series in 2022, and I don’t think they plan on changing that.

Score prediction 6-3 Astros

Angels @ Orioles

The Angles have a new look team since they lost the best player in the world in Shohei Ohtani but they still have Mike Trout who if he can stay healthy will be an MVP candidate. The Orioles should have World Series hopes because they won 100 games last year and added a superstar in Corbin Burnes.

Score Prediction: 7-1 Orioles
