My favorite college baseball team the Wake Forest Demon Deacons are facing off against the University of Virginia Cavaliers on the road tonight at four. My Deacs are coming off an horrendous road loss against Coastal Carolina last Tuesday 17-9.
They are currently sitting at a 12-5 record holding down the number seven seed in the country. They desperately need to sweep this weekend series to get back on track after coughing up their top spot last weekend to Duke in their ACC opener.
Some good news though, they are back at the top of their rotation with lefty flamethrower Josh Hartle taking the hill Friday night (at press time, Virginia defeated Wake Forest 16-10 in a high scoring affair). Chase Burns takes the bump on Saturday, and TBD for Sunday's starting pitcher.
I am also looking forward to seeing Nick Kurtz and Jake Reinisch’s hot bats this weekend. Kurtz hit a birthday bomb on Tuesday and I hope he can hit some more in this series.
These two teams do have some history though…with this series being the 170th all time these two teams have played each other. The Deacs lead the series 87-82 dating back to 1955.
The Friday and Sunday games are available to watch on the ACC network extra and Saturday’s showdown will be available on the ACCN with Mike Monaco and Kyle Peterson hosting.
