Socially Listening: To Spotify By Marcus Henry

Recently, Spotify was discovered testing a new addition called Social Listening. A reverse-engineering expert named Jane Manchun Wong found it by examining Spotify’s code in the Android version of its app. She was able to extract screenshots and also found that as of now, only employees are able to use Social Listening; she believes that this is Spotify’s testings. Spotify only said that they are always testing new experiences for users, but did not reveal whether or not this discovery was true.

But what is Social Listening? It basically is a social media platform within Spotify. It enables users to add songs to a shared queue, to let friends make recommendations for each other. Additionally, it will enable such scenarios as guests at a party being able to add their own music, without having to physically ask the DJ. This is almost identical to the main feature of a social media platform called Turntable.fm, which is now obsolete. Sounds cool? No one knows as of yet whether this is real, or whether it will be released. We can only cross our fingers.
