BEWARE: SPOILERS INCOMING!
I just saw Venom: Let There Carnage a few days ago, and here are my thoughts on it.
First, I have to say I enjoyed this movie. It was funny, action packed, and had a good story, and here are some of my favorite parts.
In this movie, the relationship between Venom (an alien symbiote, which means the alien acts as a parasite on its host) and Eddie (the host for Venom’s parasite) is very funny, and they are kind of like an old married couple that argues all the time. The humor in this movie was very funny and made me laugh a lot.
Now let's talk about the characters. Detective Mulligan was a good character and his backstory with Shriek was good and I am excited to see him return in the future. In the comics, he becomes Toxin who is a symbiote like Venom, so I am excited to see if he comes back as him in future movies about Venom. I also really enjoyed Carnage in this movie. His voice was menacing and he was a legitimate scary villain. I just wish he had more screen time and didn’t die in this movie, because I wanted to see him more. However, I still enjoyed his performance, short as it was. Another new character in this movie was Shriek. Other than her backstory with Carnage/Cletus Kassidy, I didn’t really like her character in this movie. She seemed forced and rushed and didn’t even survive. I loved Venom in this movie. He was hilarious and really cool. Also I liked Eddie, but I think Venom stole the show.
Let’s talk about some pros of the film. First, the comedy was hilarious, and the characters were good. The action in this movie also delivered well. The final battle was really good and showed how powerful Carnage was, but unfortunately he lost and was killed by Venom. And what an epic post credit scene! In it, we saw Venom and Eddie in a hotel watching a cheesy movie. Then they start talking about how symbiotes have so much knowledge and how Venom would share a fraction of what he knows. He tries giving Eddie some knowledge, but then the room shakes, and on the television we hear J. Jonah Jameson from the MCU’s Daily Bugle news program. After Eddie turns into Venom, he sees video footage of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man! We then see Venom lick the screen and say, “That guy.” This is huge because Venom and Spider-Man are in two different universes, but now they are in the same one!
A big con in this movie was definitely the runtime. This movie was only 90 minutes, which I don’t think was good because they rushed the story and action which I didn’t really like. As I mentioned earlier, I didn’t like Shriek in this movie. She felt rushed and I was not really given a reason to care for her other than she was Carnage’s love interest.
I really enjoyed this movie overall. It was solid, it could've been longer and had some character changes, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Overall, I rate this as a 8/10. I’m excited to see what’s next for Venom!
