The Super Bowl has been played and the outcome that I expected and also wanted did end up happening. The Cincinnati Bengals had the lead the whole second half after a blown pass interference call. They added a field goal later to make it a 20-16 game going into the final minutes of the game. The Los Angeles Rams went down the field needing a touchdown, haunted by the blown PAT attempt, to where they were now down by four instead of three. A wild drive down the field got the Rams inside the 10 yard line. And after penalty after penalty, something happened. Let's look through the game.
1st Half: The Bengals attempted a gutsy first drive fourth and 1 and failed which gave the Rams the field position they needed. They ran downfield OBJ catching the touchdown to make it 7 - 0. The Bengals’ Ja'marr Chase burned Jalen Ramsey on the sideline, but the Bengals couldn’t capitalize and just got a field goal, then the Rams scored their second touchdown but missed a PAT due to the snap being bobbled. At halftime it was 13-10 Rams.
Halftime: Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and surprise guest 50 Cent were the stars of this show. The halftime show was awesome and you could tell it had the crowd rocking. Especially when 50 Cent was shown hanging upside down while singing. Overall, I think this is one of the better halftime shows we’ve had, but now back to the game.
2nd Half: It didn’t start off great for the Rams as T. Higgins ran straight through Jalen Ramsey for a touchdown to give the Bengals the lead. Now, the play should’ve been called for pass interference, but wasn’t, so there was nothing the Rams could do about it. A field goal for each team made the score 20-16 going into the final minutes of the game. A wild drive down the field got the Rams inside the 10 yard line. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford took the snap, looked around, threw it, and Rams receiver Cooper Kupp caught it! The Rams had the lead with a minute and twenty five seconds left on the clock. The Bengals were 1 for 2 on fourth downs this game and had a fourth and 1 on their final possession of the game. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow took the snap, looked around, Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald was coming around the corner, grabbed Burrow, Burrow flicked it to his wide receiver and the pass fell incomplete! The Rams had the ball back and won the game after they took a knee to end the game! What a game it was and for the Bengals, and with their bright future if they play it right, they will definitely be here again.
Post Game: Rams fans have definitely been wondering what's going to happen with their veteran players. There were rumors that Aaron Donald was going to retire if they won. The other day he said that if the Rams have a Super Bowl team, why not repeat? Which leads me to believe Donald may come back for another season. Andrew Witworth, now the oldest player in the NFL, may retire but not much else has been said about that. Same with Odell Beckham Junior. The big news, however, is that Sean McVay, the Rams head coach, might be stepping down from his role to go into the broadcasting business, which has raised some suspicion on why he would do that. The Bengals signed their head coach Zac Taylor to an extension through 2026 the other day, which should hopefully pay off for them. The Bengals also said that their offensive line is what they are looking to upgrade this offseason, and for good reason. The Rams sacked Joe Burrow seven times in the Super Bowl. That's it for now, as we head into the offseason for football, and hopefully baseball, if the Major League Baseball lockout is settled soon, is right around the corner.
